Built on Fixing Things
The hills around Chester, NY are quiet in the early morning. Mist sits in the valleys, the air is cool and clean, and on Main Street the shops are just starting to open. This is where Proper Upkeep began, with one person: Chi.
Chi’s childhood was hard. What he had was his grandfather, who came to America from Vietnam in 1968 with little more than his two hands and a craftsman’s eye. Chi grew up at his side, handing him tools and watching him fix what others would throw away: a dripping pipe, a door that wouldn’t close, a wall that needed patching. His grandfather never rushed and never cut corners. His way was simple: do it once, and do it right.
Fixing things kept Chi steady. When something was broken, he could make it right. That became his work, and his rule: never get rich on the back of others. Keep prices fair, and make the service better than anyone expects.
It started with one van parked on Main Street in the Village of Chester. A neighbor needed a leak fixed. Then a landlord needed a unit turned over. Word spread from porch to porch, one job led to the next, and that one van became a full crew and a fleet.
Today Proper Upkeep is a respected name in the industry, handling maintenance, repairs and renovations of every kind. Every job still gets the care Chi learned at his grandfather’s side.
Honest prices. Real service. Done properly.
